Dear IPBES secretariat,

Unfortunately, I could not attend the online conference as it clashed with other commitments. As part of the impacts and dependence of business on biodiversity, Forest Peoples Programme would like to propose that the scoping of the assessment also includes rights-based and FPIC-based conservation set asides as private sector biodiversity partnerships, drawing on evolving processes such as the High Carbon Stock Approach (HCSA), the High Conservation Value Resource Network (HCVRN), the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and others. These should be framed by evolving standards in the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights and other relevant human rights and environmental standards to ensure that these various approaches and processes result in positive outcomes for both biodiversity and people, particularly indigenous peoples and local communities.

Best wishes,

Maurizio Farhan Ferrari
