Researchers incorporated the concepts and methodologies outlined in the IPBES framework to analyze the connection between food customs, land knowledge, and resource understandings among non-sedentary peoples in Eurasia, specifically focusing on sturgeon aquaculture facilities in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan.

"This study’s expanded IPBES model meets the call of the IPBES framework for addressing environmental discourse and resource understandings which naturalize categorical distinctions," wrote the paper's authors.
