 Mon, 04/04/2022 Anonymous IPBES Publications Inform Handbook on the Use of Biodiversity Scenarios in Support of Decision-Making English (396) BiodivERsA and the Belmont Forum, in the framework of their joint action on scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem services, have produced a handbook on the use of biodiversity scenarios in support of decision-making. This handbook is intended for any individual interested in learning about biodiversity scenarios, and in particular participatory scenario design and the use of biodiversity scenarios in decision-making. It builds on a variety of sources (literature, expert and non-expert consultations, interviews) to provide a general understanding of scenarios of biodiversity, concrete examples of their use and a directory of relevant resources to go further on the topic. Several publications of IPBES have been instrumental in this endeavor, in particular the IPBES Methodological Assessment on Scenarios and Models and its summary for policy-makers. Furthermore, valuable feedback wasgiven by members of the IPBES Task-Force on Scenarios and Models (among other academic and non-academic respondents) through an online consultation organized in the Spring of 2020. In total, this outreach engaged about 2500 scientists, practitioners, officials and NGOs. These events also included the participation of Global Assessment authors (co-chairs, CLAs, etc.).

 Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous IPBES Global Assessment Prompts International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) to 'Rethink How We Work Together to Tackle the Biodiversity Crisis' English (396) The IPBES Global Assessment Report has influenced the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM)'s biodiversity lead write that "the key findings of the [IPBES] Report that show, in no uncertain terms, biodiversity is declining at rates unprecedented in human history. Joe Neguse (Colo.-02), Ted Lieu (Calif.-33), Ruben Gallego (Ariz.-07), and Ed Case (Hawaii-01) to introduce the Thirty by Thirty Resolution to Save Nature to set a goal for the United States to conserve at least 30% of the ocean and land by 2030.

In a press conference, Rep. Haaland said, “Globally, the loss of nature – accelerated by climate change – is putting up to one million species on the path to extinction. Conserving our lands and waters is essential to protecting humans and wildlife and stabilizing our climate, so I’m following the direction from leading scientists and introducing this resolution to set a national goal of conserving 30 percent of America’s land and oceans by 2030 to tackle this urgent crisis.”

 Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous IPBES Global Assessment and Key Findings Cited in United States Senate Resolution to Protect 30% of the Land and Ocean by 2030 English (396) The IPBES Global Assessment and key findings from the Report were cited within the text of United States Senate Resolution 372 in the 116th Congress, a bill which suggests that "the Federal Government should establish a national goal of conserving at least 30 percent of the land and 30 percent of the ocean within the territory of the United States by 2030."

Namely, the findings that 1 million species face extinction, the direct drivers of biodiversity loss and five specific facts were incorporated in the bill to justify this proposal: ((A) human activities are damaging 2⁄3 of ocean areas; (B) only 3 percent of ocean areas remain pristine; (C) 15 percent of mangroves remain; (D) 50 percent of coral reefs remain; and (E) at the current rate of losses, less than 10 percent of the Earth will be free of substantial human impact by 2050);. Albright provides context for a statement released on 18 February 2020, signed by 23 former foreign ministers calling on world leaders to protect biodiversity.
