The framework serves to assess what elements may catalyze transformative change, how transformative change occurs, and what its outcomes are. The framework provides key components for assessing the effectiveness of NbS and allows tracking long-term transformative change processes.

Through the design and implementation of a local-scale participatory value-based scenario building process, this study explores the relationships between (1) multiple types of values, (2) actions taken by different types of stakeholders, and (3) their potential impacts on nature, nature’s contributions to people (including ecosystem services) and good quality of life. Her loon explosion, titled ”In The Red”, showcasing the quintessentially Canadian loon, is meant to echo the idea of “annihilation”. The title is a nod to the International Union for Concerned Scientists’ "Red List" of Threatened Species, while the loon is hemmed in by concrete, which is an allusion to the rampant habitat destruction that’s fueling the current biological annihilation. Her art is a call to action: "So look into that loon’s eyes, harness the uneasiness, sadness, loss, guilt, rage, or whatever else you might feel, and channel it. I’ll be right there with you, fighting for our existence".

At the report's launch, presenters gave a summary of the methodology and results of the national assessment, focusing on the accomplishments and results and how the findings may assist with decision-making. Experts emphasized the critical importance of protecting vulnerable habitats, as well as the urgent need to integrate biodiversity conservation and ecosystem protection across all economic and social development policies to ensure a sustainable future for the country.

The report provides useful references for strengthening public awareness and legal frameworks to protect and restore ecosystems. The assessment helps connect scientists to practitioners and policymakers in the country and will play a critical role in informing policymaking.
