Deep-sea mining is expected to be a major threat in the near future (Jones et al. 2017). Longterm effects of dumped waste, especially radioactive material and plastics is still largely unknown (Bergmann et al. 2015). Due to adaptation to a stable environment most deep-sea organisms are sensitive to environmental changes, especially to climate-induced shifts in energy supply, alteration of biogeochemical cycles including ocean acidification and prey-predator interactions.
