Based on a comprehensive meta-analysis, Schirmel et al. (2016) have concluded that 56 per cent of invasive plants studied significantly reduced animal abundance, diversity, fitness, and ecosystem functions. These authors have underlined, however, huge knowledge gaps in this field and recommended coordinated studies on impacts of invasive species on key faunal species and ecosystems.
