 Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous IPBES Global Assessment Prompts International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) to 'Rethink How We Work Together to Tackle the Biodiversity Crisis' English (396) The IPBES Global Assessment Report has influenced the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM)'s biodiversity lead write that "the key findings of the [IPBES] Report that show, in no uncertain terms, biodiversity is declining at rates unprecedented in human history. This rapid reduction of the world’s precious natural diversity is cause for great alarm, but as the report also states, it’s not too late for us to make a difference."

The ICMM has therfore urged business and governments to adopt a collaborative approach to managing biodiversity and building a robust post-2020 Biodiversity Framework.  Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous Former US Secretary of State Draws on IPBES Global Assessment in Appeal to World Leaders to Protect Biodiversity English (396) Madeleine Albright, former US Secretary of State and former US Ambassador to the United Nations, draws on the IPBES Global Assessment in an article following the 2020 gathering of the Aspen Ministers Forum. Albright provides context for a statement released on 18 February 2020, signed by 23 former foreign ministers calling on world leaders to protect biodiversity. Albright highlights the findings of the IPBES Global Assessment, including that “the current rate of extinction is two to three times higher than the average rate over the past ten million years. As a result, up to one million species now stand threatened.”

 Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous Joint Declaration of Women in Conservation Takes Into Account Findings of IPBES Global Assessment English (396) Within the framework of the III Congress of Protected Areas in Latin America and the Caribbean in Lima, Peru, the Meeting of Women in Conservation “Collectively Building the Women’s Agenda in Conservation of Latin America and the Caribbean” brought together 60 women from 14 countries from environmental, academic, scientific, political, social, community, indigenous and LGBT+ diversity sectors. In the document “Joint Declaration of Women in Conservation,” which was formed through this meeting, the attendees proclaim to “collaborate in good faith to achieve gender equality” and formally take into account the findings of the IPBES Global Assessment, including its finding that inequalities related to income and gender weaken the ability to achieve sustainability.

IPBES was recognized specifically for the Global Assessment and the platform's "decisive role in outlining the drivers of biodiversity loss, communicating the magnitude of the problem and laying the groundwork for a new agenda and transformative change in relation to biodiversity."
