 Mon, 29/08/2022 Fernando Neda Swiss Academies of Sciences (SCNAT) to Brief Swiss Parliamentarians on IPBES Assessments French (397) At the invitation of Irène Kälin, President of the National Council, the Swiss Academies of Sciences (a+) will hold dialogues directly with Swiss parliamentarians to brief them on the latest results of research on climate and biodiversity from IPCC and IPBES. The reports presented in detail at the Global Change Day on 12 April 2022, with the dialogue with parliamentarians set for 2 May 2022. Following publication by IPBES in July 2022 of the new Values Assessment and Sustainable Use Assessment, information sessions will also be planned. The President of the National Council will also organize a discussion at the Federal Palace.

 Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous Joint Declaration of Women in Conservation Takes Into Account Findings of IPBES Global Assessment English (396) Within the framework of the III Congress of Protected Areas in Latin America and the Caribbean in Lima, Peru, the Meeting of Women in Conservation “Collectively Building the Women’s Agenda in Conservation of Latin America and the Caribbean” brought together 60 women from 14 countries from environmental, academic, scientific, political, social, community, indigenous and LGBT+ diversity sectors. In the document “Joint Declaration of Women in Conservation,” which was formed through this meeting, the attendees proclaim to “collaborate in good faith to achieve gender equality” and formally take into account the findings of the IPBES Global Assessment, including its finding that inequalities related to income and gender weaken the ability to achieve sustainability.

The paper, titled “Nature’s contribution to adaptation: insights from examples of the transformation of social-ecological systems”, concludes that the plurality of human-nature relationships included in the IPBES conceptual framework is “is needed to integrate ecosystem transformation into adaptation thinking and action while engaging a diversity of actors with differing world views.” The authors accordingly frame “the capacity of ecosystems under climate change to enable future human needs under the IPBES framework of nature’s contributions to people” and “introduce the concept of Nature’s Contribution to Adaptation (NCA) as a means to operationalise transformative adaptation, emphasising the need to create options for society to transform under ecosystem transformation.”

 Wed, 20/12/2023 ana.costiniu Young farmers lead land restoration in Malawi English (396) UNDP, through its Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services Network (BES-Net) project and its Malawi country office, engages young entrepreneurs in land restoration activities across the three districts of Lilongwe, Dedza and Salima.  Mon, 27/11/2023 Fernando Neda 7 Directors from Natural Science Institutes from Europe Reference IPBES Science in Open Letter Supporting the European Nature Restoration Law English (396) In June 2023, seven directors from natural science institutes in Europe referenced IPBES in an open letter supporting the European Nature Restoration Law, which was later passed by the European Parliament in July 2023.

"Report after report, from regional or national studies to international organizations such as IPCC and IPBES, the science is clear: we must act now, not only on climate but also on biodiversity, as both are intricately and inseparably linked. That is why we are addressing you today," states the open letter.

Furthermore, the letter also cites IPBES findings by stating: "With currently one million species at risk of extinction we hope you will take the right decisions to avoid nature to be found only in our museums."

The public were invited to sign the open letter in support of the directors' appeal. Signatories included the directors of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, the Natural History Museum of Denmark, the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in The Netherlands, the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in France, the UK's Natural History Museum, and CETAF - Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities.  Wed, 28/09/2022 Anonymous Citing IPBES Findings, Pantone and Tealeaves Call Attention To Biodiversity Threat With New Fossil-Inspired Color English (396) Citing IPBES' finding that over one million species are under the threat of extinction, global colour authority Pantone Color Institute (PCI), in partnership with tea brand Tealeaves, announced a new Pantone color based on the world’s oldest found pigment and meant to draw attention to biodiversity loss. With the "Pantone Color of Biodiversity," they look to support the United Nations Biodiversity endeavor, the World Biodiversity Forum, and 30x30 initiatives to protect at least 30 percent of the Earth's land and oceans by 2030.

Launched on the first day of the 2022 meeting of the UN General Assembly, the Pantone Color of Biodiversity, a bright pink hue, calls attention to the variety of species and ecosystems that underpin the health of the planet and viability of life, and the alarming rate at which the world is losing them. The color represents the evolution of biodiversity and aims to bring awareness to biodiversity loss, a rising global environmental threat. Based on pigments made from 1.1-billion-year-old marine sedimentary rocks of the Taoudeni Basin in Mauritania, West Africa, and discovered by Dr. Nur Gueneili, Pantone’s new color results from microscopic fossils of chlorophyll produced by ancient species living in an ocean that no longer exists.
