 Mon, 17/10/2022 Fernando Neda Icelandic Minister Highlights IPBES Findings in 2019 Speech at the Arctic Circle China Forum English (396) During her keynote speech in the Arctic Science and Innovation session held during the 2019 Arctic Circle China Forum: China and The Arctic, H.E. Ms. Lilja Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Education, Science and Culture of Iceland, highlighted a finding from the 2019 IPBES Global Assessment to advocate for greater co-ownership by indigenous peoples of decisions and policymaking on nature:

"...What is the key message from me as a minister?...even though we have this very good dialogue with researchers and very talented and extremely forward-looking people...one of the things that we noticed is that 'nature managed by indigenous peoples and local communities is under increasing pressure, but it's generally declining less rapidly than in other lands' (IPBES 2019). What am I saying by this? Why am I highlighting this? I do that because it's very important that there is ownership of the policies. We need to think about the Arctic people. They need to be involved as regards to decision-making. We are not going to have successful decisions or policymaking, either global or local, unless we have the people that are there work with us."

The China Forum was held in the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum on May 10-11, 2019. The forum was hosted by China's Ministry of Natural Resources in collaboration with the Polar Research Institute of China and supported by the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai. Based in Reykjavík, Iceland, Arctic Circle is a "network of international dialogue and cooperation on the future of the Arctic and our Planet. The white paper is entitled ‘Robeco’s approach to biodiversity: Towards the integration of nature-related risks, opportunities and impacts in our investments’.  Wed, 19/04/2023 CMousnier New Natural Language AI Chat Tool Launched Focused on Climate & Biodiversity Based on Data from IPBES & IPCC Among Others French (397) Ekimetrics, a French company specialising in artificial intelligence and data management, recently unveiled "Climate Q&A", an AI that uses the same principle as ChatGPT but to answer questions about the climate or the environment based on scientific reports such as those of the IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and IPBES.

Climate Q&A aims to make scientific reports on climate issues accessible. Moreover, the IPCC reports, but also those of the International Energy Agency, the Food and Agriculture Organisation and the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) are among the documents integrated into the AI for its research. Ekimetrics replied to an IPBES query that that do plan to add other existing and to-be-published IPBES Reports to the database in future.  Wed, 14/09/2022 Anonymous Guided by IPBES Assessment Methodology Ethiopia Has Validated its National Ecosystem Assessment English (396) Ethiopia’s national ecosystem assessment, in the works since 2017 and launched in early 2022, represents an important milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services. It was guided directly by the IPBES assessment methodology.

In May 2022, the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute – which was leading the country’s assessment – and the Sub-Global Assessment Network, co-hosted a webinar celebrating Ethiopia’s assessment validation, highlighting the achievements and impact of the country’s findings to support national decision-making. Since Ethiopia’s national ecosystem assessment started, the country has been working on identifying opportunities and entry points for mainstreaming the assessment findings into the relevant policies and processes. The country will now move onto the fourth and final stage of the assessment process: the use of the assessment findings.

In line with the development of its post-2020 biodiversity framework, Ethiopia will incorporate the findings of its national ecosystem assessment into the relevant policies and processes, and implementing sectors will be assigned for the plan period of the framework. UNDP will also support Ethiopia in the use of assessment findings, through the catalytic BES Solution Fund, managed by UNDP through the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Network (BES-Net).
