Land degradation and possible solutions
In Africa particularly in rural area where agriculture remained the most important source of livelihood to many people, land degradation can be controlled from the grassroot (i.e. through awareness and trainings with rural farmers). In this regard, the most facilitating factors, which might help fill the gaps of the challenges related to land degradation in the region include plantation of economic trees in dry land areas to help improve land quality and economic opportunity, good drainage systems to help convey water useful for irrigation and drinking purposes, proper utilization of plant and animal materials to provide surface soil cover and control runoff and sheet erosion, provinding available and affordable cooking gas to all citizens to help minimize or to some extent control erosion. Generally, these facilitating factors can be achieved if researches and fundings set the combine objectives of the listed points in the region.
