Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

I am pleased to invite you to participate in an online dialogue meeting for Governments and stakeholders that will be held on 26 October 2023, focusing on the nomination of experts and fellows. The deadline for meeting registration has now been extended until 25 October 2023, and can be completed using this link: https://ipbes-net.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJcvc-GqqT0iG9EJoxHmuwdF7826BrMIuyle#/registration

You may recall that the IPBES Plenary, in decision IPBES-10/1 approved, among other things: the undertaking of a methodological assessment on monitoring biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people (monitoring assessment); a scoping process for a second global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services (second global assessment); and workplans for objectives 2, 3 and 4 of the rolling work programme, to be implemented by four IPBES task forces.

As such, several calls for nominations of experts and fellows have recently been issued:

  • Experts for IPBES task forces (EM/2023/37)
  • Scoping experts for the second global assessment (EM/2023/35
  • Experts for the monitoring assessment (EM/2023/36
  • Fellows for the monitoring assessment (EM/2023/38
  • Fellows for the scenarios and models task force (EM/2023/39

The dialogue meeting aims to facilitate and strengthen engagement by Governments and stakeholders in the nomination of experts and fellows. Sessions will include information regarding the required relevant expertise of nominees and the nomination process, and will also provide an opportunity for current and previous IPBES experts and fellows to share their experiences of the nomination process and lessons learned.

The meeting will be conducted in English only. To accommodate participants in different time zones, participants may choose to attend one of the following sessions:

  • 9:00 – 11:00 CEST
  • 16:00 – 18:00 CEST

For any questions concerning the meetings, please contact the technical support unit on capacity-building at [email protected].

I thank you for your continued support to IPBES.
Yours sincerely,

Dr Anne Larigauderie | Executive Secretary
Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)
