Dear IPBES members, observers, and other interested stakeholders,

In accordance with decision IPBES-10/1, I would like to invite Governments, organizations and individuals to submit their views on the future role of the policy support function of IPBES and ways to strengthen the implementation of objective 4 (a) on policy tools and methodologies.

Inputs will be used to develop a draft concept note which sets out the future work that could be undertaken to implement objective 4(a), and options for any necessary institutional arrangements.

Through this call for inputs, we are hoping to receive contributions that will assist in:
•    Refining the scope and clarifying the aims of objective 4(a)
•    Identifying the types of activities/deliverables necessary to implement objective 4(a), and the scale at which they should be implemented
•    Identifying the types of impacts that these activities/deliverables are intended to achieve
•    Identifying options for institutional arrangements and mechanisms to facilitate delivery

An initial discussion on inputs will be held at the IPBES National Focal Point workshop, 5-7 December 2023. Following the drafting of the concept note a series of online dialogues will be held to further elaborate the content before submission of the concept for consideration at IPBES 11.

Please submit your contributions preferably by the end of November 2023 to allow for the consideration of your inputs at the IPBES National Focal Points workshop, but not later than 6 January 2024. Please submit your input to https://www.ipbes.net/form/2023-policy-support-inputs

Should you have any questions, please contact the technical support unit for policy support tools and methodologies at [email protected]

Yours sincerely,

Dr Anne Larigauderie | Executive Secretary
Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)
