Dr. Goka studies the ecological and environmental impacts caused by invasive alien species. Currently, he is leading the largest research project on invasive species in Japan, focusing on risk assessment, surveillance, eradication and management. In addition, he is one of the main advocates for invasive species issues in Japan and he is a regular contributor to discussions on this topic through a wide variety of media, including television programs. The results of his work have contributed to raising the general public’s awareness of the alien species issue. This has also enabled him to engage the general public in citizen science projects on eradication.
