Professor Hemanthi Ranasinghe is a Senior Professor in Forestry and Environmental Science and also the former Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. She is also a Chartered Environmental Professional having more than 30 years of experience as a Trainer, Researcher and Consultant on Environment, Natural Resource Management and Climate Change both locally and internationally including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia). She has wide experience in working with many international donor agencies including Asian Development Bank, World Bank, United Nations, JAICA, PLAN etc. both as a team member and team leader on development projects including infrastructure development ie transportation, harbors, water supply and sanitation, oil pipelines, electricity transmission, forestry. Her main areas of expertise lies in Environmental/Strategic Environmental Assessments, Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Monitoring Plans, Monitoring and Evaluation of Projects and Programs, Forest Management Plans, Forest Plantation establishment and management, Climate Change adaptation and mitigation. She has extensive experience in both academia and industry. She hold the title of ‘Professional Woman of the Year 2000’ awarded by the Women’s Chamber of Commerce. She is also a certified ISO 14001 Auditor and an Auditor in FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). She has more than 50 peer reviewed research papers to her credit on areas of her expertise including forestry, environment and natural resources management and climate change. She is also a local and international editor and report writer.
