Business and biodiversity assessment

This new work programme includes a methodological assessment of the impact and dependence of business on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people that is aimed at categorizing how businesses depend on, and impact, biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people and identifying criteria and indicators for measuring that dependence and impact, taking into consideration how such metrics can be integrated into other aspects of sustainability.

The IPBES Plenary, at IPBES 9 (July 2023) approved the undertaking of the business and biodiversity assessment as outlined in the “Scoping report for a methodological assessment of the impact and dependence of business on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people” set out in annex I to its decision IPBES-9/1, for consideration by the Plenary at its twelfth session.
