Save the date for IPBES 8, to be held virtually on 14-24 June 2021

Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

The IPBES Bureau, at its 15th meeting, considered the extraordinary situation caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the implementation of the IPBES work programme and the hosting of the eighth session of the IPBES Plenary (IPBES 8) in Marrakech, Morocco. After careful consideration and consultations, the Bureau decided that IPBES 8 would be postponed from January/February 2021 to 14-24 June 2021 and be held as an online meeting. It will be preceded by online regional consultations and stakeholder day(s) (information on the time and date of these events will follow in due course). 

The provisional agenda for the session is available on the IPBES website at: https://ipbes.net/events/ipbes-8-plenary.

Considering the reduced meeting time available for an online meeting, action to be taken under the different agenda items will be reduced to the most essential decisions.

A preparatory process to allow for consultations and refinement of documentation prior to IPBES 8 will be organized.

Further information on the preparatory process as well as information on the registration process, meeting documentation and the platform that will be used for the online meeting will be shared in due course.
