Online dialogue meetings for stakeholders on the nomination of experts and fellows for the business and biodiversity assessment

Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

I am pleased to invite you to participate in the online dialogue meetings for governments and stakeholders on the nomination of experts and fellows for the business and biodiversity assessment (EM/2022/31 and EM/2022/32). The meetings will be held for national focal points and other government representatives on 4 October 2022 and for stakeholders on 6 October 2022. This invitation relates to the meeting for stakeholders held on 6 October, and a separate invitation is being sent to IPBES members concerning the meeting for national focal points and other government representatives held on 4 October 2022.

You will recall that the IPBES Plenary, at its 9th session in decision IPBES-9/ approved the undertaking of a methodological assessment of the impact and dependence of business on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people (business and biodiversity assessment) as outlined in the scoping report for the assessment (attached).

The dialogue meetings aim to facilitate and strengthen engagement by Governments and stakeholders in the nomination of experts and fellows for the business and biodiversity assessment. This will be done through sessions aimed at informing governments' representatives and stakeholders on the nomination process and expertise relevant to the assessment, and sessions aimed at sharing experience on national nomination processes and lessons learnt by experts and fellows taking part in previous and/or ongoing assessments.

Dialogue meeting for stakeholders

Stakeholders, including representatives of businesses, networks and communities working on the interlinkages between business and biodiversity, are invited to register for the meeting on this link (https://ipbes-net.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJEpce-pqTgoG9F0X3KUcd6--7RCidjOMCh1) by 30 September 2022. The meeting will be in English only. To accommodate for different time zones, participants may choose to attend one of the following sessions:

• Thursday 6 October: 09:00-11:00 CEST
• Thursday 6 October: 16:00-18:00 CEST
