After the workshops the project partners are well prepared to take an active part in IPBES processes in an informed and competent manner and to make use of IPBES assess-ment findings in environmental decision making in their respective countries. Support to communities of practice engaging in IPBES Indigenous and local knowledge systems, Scenarios and models From a methodological approach that integrates elements of education for comprehensive water management and for adaptation to Climate Change, with a design approach for transitions and adaptive management of socio-ecological systems. An exploratory study will be carried out through interviews with key actors (academics, members of civil society organizations, federal government officials, municipal government officials, teachers, agricultural producers and inhabitants) and surveys of middle school students (high schools and high schools) for:

1) Carry out a general survey of the current situation at the level of water security (access to drinking water in adequate quantity and quality to cover their consumption, sanitation, hygiene and health needs).
2) Carry out a general survey regarding the state of the ecosystems and their capacity to continue providing hydrological ecosystem services, on which both people and biodiversity depend.
3) Know if the organizational, management, infrastructure and knowledge resources available to the population allow it to be resilient or adapt to extreme hydrometeorological phenomena derived from Climate Change, such as drought.
4) Know the visions of the future of adults and young people regarding the ideal of community development.

The results of the research will make it possible to assess current opportunities, gaps and challenges. What will allow the design of a relevant and culturally appropriate knowledge management strategy, and that facilitates the creation of capacities to increase community resilience and adaptation to Climate Change. The assessment will cover the Marine Area under National Jurisdiction and the Coastal Zone of Brazil. The Marine Area under National Jurisdiction includes the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) beyond the Legal Continental Shelf (JCP) - which in some in some cases exceeds 200 nautical miles from the EEZ. The Coastal Zone is delimited with a width of 12 nautical miles nautical miles from the baseline on the coast, in addition to its terrestrial part which all municipalities facing the sea and the areas of influence associated with hydrographic basins

of Blue Economy resources, policy development and implementation on the Blue Economy. As an
example, more than 80 per cent of the oceans remain completely unmapped. This is combined with
an equally poor mapping of freshwater and groundwater resources on the continent. To address
this, ECA has embarked on the development of a Blue Economy valuation toolkit aimed to guide
data collection and analysis for the socio-economic assessment of blue resources, including goods
and services generated; which in turn is expected to provide an accurate snapshot of the potential of
the Blue Economy and to help inform decision-making.
In addition, there is still lack of clear understanding of the concept and multisectoral approach of the
Blue Economy by policy makers and stakeholders. ECA has played an instrumental role in the past
few years in assisting member States and regional bodies in developing their first strategic policy
frameworks using the methodology provided by the Blue Economy Policy Handbook for Africa (ECA
flagship publication).
Countries such as Seychelles have decided to fully focus on the Blue Economy to sustain their
post-Covid19 recovery. Indeed, due to the vastness of its opportunities the Blue Economy repre- sents more and more a very promising outlet to build economies back better, for sustainable growth
within the context of the socio-economic crisis generated by the Covid 19 pandemic.
Hence, there is need to build and develop capacities on the Blue Economy concept, approach,
related policy and valuation tools to raise awareness, disseminate knowledge and enable key players
to apply it through tailor-made assessments as well as policy and regulatory frameworks and action
plans. IDEP in partnership with the Centre for Blue Governance, University of Portsmouth, conside- ring its importance has decided to organize a second edition accommodating the participation of a
Portuguese audience.
This training falls under Cluster 4 (Integrated Natural Resource Management) of the training cata- logue adopted by the Technical Advisory Committee of UNIDEP and endorsed by its governing

The ocean is undergoing rapid change due to increasing CO2 emissions resulting in serious risks to its biodiversity and ecosystems, and global society. This will continue unless unprecedented action is taken. Panelists summarized the findings of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and IPBES assessments and new societal and scientific initiatives for sustaining this unique habitat and Earth’s essential life support system.

The event aimed to inspire more Parties and non-Parties to enable future ocean-related climate and biodiversity action within their NDCs, to accelerate multi-stakeholder collaboration, to contribute to objectives of achieving Net Zero in a sustainable way and making (ocean) nature part of the solution, ensuring all hands on deck for “the NDCs we want”.

This series of workshops was spread through the global time zones and hosted by regional ESP representatives, but open to anybody interested in reviewing the assessment.

We were explicitly looking for expertise from members of governments, local communities and civil society who have practical, technical and/or academic knowledge.

Each of the 5 workshops consisted of a short presentation of the values assessment and the summary for policy makers; an explanation of the review process; and an interactive part where participants were able to put forward questions and comments on the different chapters. Familiarization of IPBES works to reach a wider community requires strategic support to increase the resilience to harness community-based conservation efforts. This initiative will enhance individual and community capacities for supporting the development and use of IPBES deliverables because Uganda is one country that is lagging behind in the dissemination of the IPBES works and we want to believe that to strengthen the role of local and indigenous communities in the implementation of IPBES works especially building and supporting their practice in conservation is essential when we work closely with local and indigenous communities, governments and non-state actors to create and improve the chances of tilting the balance in negotiations in favor of biodiversity.
The contribution is in line with the IPBES 2030 work programme which includes building capacity as one of its six objectives and particularly it shall build the capacity and strengthen the knowledge foundations of the Karamojong indigenous Nomadic Pastoralist of North East Uganda and Iteso local community and it’s seen as supporting the policy. The two communities are chosen because they are situated amid areas of high biodiversity and other values of nature in the country. We aim to build the capacities of the target communities to make known the IPBES works and reports on biodiversity and ecosystem services. These products when understood by the target communities shall make good country’s dual goal of improving the management of natural resources and people’s quality of life and aimed to conserve wildlands and their biodiversity while simultaneously balancing the needs of local people, sustaining ecosystem dynamics and resilience, and ensuring continuity for future generations. This contribution undertakes community engagement of IPBES reports using bottom-up empowerment and it is justified that working to engage communities to understand assessment/research reports is considered a practical and pragmatic way of improving the delivery of outcomes and making interventions more cost-effective.

Issues facing pollinators in Trinidad and Tobago largely stem from a lack of data, a lack of public awareness and a lack of pollinator-appropriate management.

This project aims to address these challenges by engaging a broad range of stakeholders through public awareness and citizen science initiatives, identifying knowledge gaps, encouraging and supporting scientific research, facilitating collaboration and improving livelihoods, and reviewing policy. It is expected that because of these activities, knowledge and understanding of pollinators and their threats and management options among the general public increases; management of pollinators improves, particularly among food producers; a number of tools are made available to present and future generations.

After more than three decades of scientific reports and international meetings, it is clear that there is no consistent progress being made in the public and private arena towards the effective implementation of environmental objectives, in view of an integrated approach to the interrelated political-economic-socio-ecological problems worldwide. The recovery of the Earth and the recovery of mankind are complementary aspects, and must be addressed simultaneously, in space and time, for their mutual support. "Development" policies, the concept of "growth", usually associated with profit-making activities, rarely contemplates relevant aspects for the general well-fare and well-being; "progress", directed by major political and economic actors, hardly implies a change of the economic and political power asymmetries between common people and business corporations. Instead of dealing with the bubbles (segmented public policies, reduced academic formats and mass media headlines), trying to solve isolated and localized problems without addressing the general phenomenon, problems are defined and dealt with deep inside the “boiling pot”, encompassing the current “world-system” with its boundaries, structures, techno-economic paradigms, support groups, rules of legitimation, and coherence. Endurable and consistent results are not achieved by trying to integrate different competitor parts, but by the non-partition of scientific knowledge, encompassing human sciences, exact and natural sciences; all areas must be considered and validated; excellence is not obtained by the agglutination of parts, nor by the sum of isolated efforts, but by the construction of new concepts and practices to live better in a better world. Instead of taking current prospects for granted and project them into the future, the definition of desirable goals and the exploration of new paths to reach them contemplate a set of values, norms and policies that prioritizes socio-ecological objectives, human well-being, natural and built environments, the aesthetic, ethical and cultural meaning of the existence. In this ecosystem approach, spaces are opened for new allocation of meanings, instead of being trapped into pre-established problem-definitions; heuristic-hermeneutic processes develop, in the sociocultural learning niches, a capacity to ask wider questions, reframing the problems, unveiling their dynamic and complex configurations, altering definitions and ways to deal with them, encompassing public policies, advocacy, communication, research and teaching programs. Problems are defined in the four dimensions of being in the world (intimate, interactive, social and biophysical), as they combine to elicit the events and maintain or change the status quo. The objective is to open up spaces for new allocation of meanings, instead of being trapped into the path-dependency of pre-established problem-definitions and biased ways to deal with many of the problems of difficult settlement or solution in the world.
