 Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous IPBES Global Assessment Prompts International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) to 'Rethink How We Work Together to Tackle the Biodiversity Crisis' English (396) The IPBES Global Assessment Report has influenced the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM)'s biodiversity lead write that "the key findings of the [IPBES] Report that show, in no uncertain terms, biodiversity is declining at rates unprecedented in human history. This rapid reduction of the world’s precious natural diversity is cause for great alarm, but as the report also states, it’s not too late for us to make a difference."

The ICMM has therfore urged business and governments to adopt a collaborative approach to managing biodiversity and building a robust post-2020 Biodiversity Framework.  Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous UK Government Draws on IPBES Findings in Green Finance Strategy English (396) In its Green Finance Strategy published in July 2019, the government of the United Kingdom cited the IPBES Global Assessment at length. The Strategy refers to the Global Assessment as a “timely [reminder] of the urgency of action” to combat biodiversity loss.  Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous Study on Belief-Based Nature Conservation Draws on IPBES Conceptual Framework English (396) Researchers at the University of Greifswald have published a study titled “The Values of Sacred Swamps: Belief-Based Nature Conservation in a Secular World”, which draws on the conceptual framework of IPBES. The results of the study “underscore the importance of a focus on nature’s contributions to people’s quality of life in the new IPBES (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) conceptual framework that reflects the importance of socio-cultural relations between people and nature for nature conservation in a specific place (Diaz et al. 2018).”

 Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous Following Global Assessment, Irish Wildlife Groups Call for an Independent National Parks and Wildlife Service English (396) In the week leading up to International Day of Biological Diversity on 22 May 2020, Irish Wildlife Groups including the Irish Wildlife Trust called for the establishment of an Independent National Parks and Wildlife Service. Liam Lysaght, director of the National Biodiversity Data Centre, explained that the public awareness of the global biodiversity crisis which led to the appeal was amplified in Ireland with the publication of the IPBES Global Assessment.

 Fri, 19/08/2022 Anonymous Scotish Natural Heritage Creates Biodiversity Challenge Fund Inspired by IPBES Global Assessment English (396) Scottish Natural Heritage, the public body responsible for Scotland’s Natural Heritage, has created the Biodiversity Challenge Fund in an effort to support nature-based solutions that address the climate and biodiversity crises. The fund comes in response to the IPBES Global Assessment and “the high-level priorities of the fund align with the IPBES direct drivers of biodiversity loss.” The first round of funding was confirmed in June 2019, enabling 14 projects across Scotland to share a total of £1.8 million over a two-year period. The second round will be implemented during the 2020-2021 fiscal year and has been boosted with £2 million of additional funds from the UK government.
