All interested members of the media, including ‘new media’ representatives, are invited to attend the opening of the fifth session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-5), starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, 7 March 2017, at the World Conference Centre Bonn, Germany.
The morning session will include, among others, a keynote speech by Dr. Guy Midgley (South Africa), on synergies between combating climate change and the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, an address by Mr. Richard Kinley, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Climate Change Secretariat, as well as an update by Dr. Anne Larigauderie, the Executive Secretary of IPBES, about progress on the IPBES assessment on land degradation and restoration, and the four regional IPBES assessments on biodiversity and ecosystem services for the Americas, Europe/Central Asia, Africa and Asia-Pacific. There will also be opportunities to interview Dr. Midgley and Dr. Larigauderie, as well as Sir Robert Watson, the Chair of IPBES.
