US Members of Congress Cite Global Assessment Reintroducing Bipartisan Bill to Support Highly Endangered Species Around the World

English (396)
On World Wildlife Day, US Representatives Jared Huffman (D-CA) and Vern Buchanan (R-FL) (joined by 18 other US Representatives) re-introduced the Critically Endangered Animals Conservation Act, a bipartisan bill to support conservation efforts for highly endangered species around the world. Their media release cites the findings of the IPBES Global Assessment Report to support these efforts. The bill establishes the Critically Endangered Animals Conservation Fund; authorizes $5 million per year from 2022-2027; and focuses on IUCN Red-list species (critically endangered or endangered), not including species already covered by other multinational species funds.
