Review of the draft scoping report for the second global assessment now live!

Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

I am pleased to announce the start of the external review of the draft scoping report for the second global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services, which is open from 29 May to 25 June 2024.

In paragraph 4, section IV, decision IPBES-10/1, the Plenary approved a scoping process, for consideration by the Plenary at its eleventh session, for a second global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services, in accordance with the procedures for the preparation of Platform deliverables (see decision IPBES-3/3, annex I, sections 3 and 4), and based on the initial scoping report (see document IPBES/10/10, annex II). 

This external review is addressed to Governments, interested and qualified experts, including scientists, decision makers, practitioners and other knowledge holders.

If you would like to participate as an expert reviewer in this external review, please follow these steps:

1. Register as a user of the IPBES website (https://ipbes.net/user/register) if you have not already done so;
2. Register to review the draft assessment at: https://www.ipbes.net/second-global-assessment/scoping-report-review/registration
3. Once registered, you will receive an email providing confidential access to the draft of the scoping report. Comments need to be submitted in English using the template available on the same webpage.

During the review period, the following online dialogue workshops will be organized:

• Dialogues with government representatives:
  • First session: 11 June 2024, 10 a.m. - noon CEST
  • Second session: 11 June, 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. CEST
• Dialogues with stakeholders:
  • First session: 12 June 2024, 10 a.m. - noon CEST
  • Second session: 12 June 2024, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. CEST

Please note that you need to register as a reviewer to participate in the dialogues (step 2 above). The dialogue registration link will be made available by email after a successful registration as a reviewer.
