Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

In notification EM/2022/45 it was announced that IPBES 10 is scheduled to be held from 28 August to 2 September 2023 in Bonn, Germany, hosted by the United States of America, and information on registration was shared in notifications EM/2023/04 (members and observers) and EM/2023/05 (observer organizations).

At IPBES 10, the Plenary will consider, among other items, the thematic assessment of invasive alien species. Regular elections for membership of the Bureau will also be held at that session. The provisional agenda is available here.

Considering the positive experience with the preparatory processes for IPBES 8 and IPBES 9, the IPBES Bureau decided to conduct a preparatory process for IPBES 10, which will include opportunities to review documentation as well as informal consultations prior to IPBES 10, as follows:

  • External review of draft task force terms of reference and workplans from 20 February to 17 March 2023;
  • Final Government review of key IPBES 10 working documents in July/August 2023 (including the summary for policymakers of the invasive alien species assessment; task force terms of reference and workplans; terms of reference for the mid-term review of IPBES; and report by the Bureau and Multidisciplinary Expert Panel on requests, inputs and suggestions for additional work programme topics) and publication of revised texts as “Chair’s notes” shortly ahead of IPBES 10;
  • Online informal exchange of views among Governments on the key topics listed above: tentatively scheduled for the week of 24 July 2023.

Governments already completed an additional review of the summary for policymakers of the assessment of invasive alien species (20 July to 15 September 2022).

Further information on IPBES 10 will be provided on the IPBES website at https://ipbes.net/events/ipbes-10.

I thank you for your continued support to IPBES.

Your sincerely,

Dr Anne Larigauderie | Executive Secretary
