This series of workshops was spread through the global time zones and hosted by regional ESP representatives, but open to anybody interested in reviewing the assessment. We were explicitly looking for expertise from members of governments, local communities and civil society who have practical, technical and/or academic knowledge. Each of the 5 workshops consisted of a short presentation of the values assessment and the summary for policy makers; an explanation of the review process; and an interactive part where participants were able to put forward questions and comments on the different chapters. We collected the comments and questions arising during the workshops, and also pesented to participans the review mechanism so they can submit comments afterwards. |

CABES is supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). The goals of the CABES programme include: Goal one: to inform national decision-making processes amongst multiple stakeholder groups including researchers, practitioners from the public and private sectors, as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs), indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) holders, women, and IPBES National Focal Points (NFPs) in target countries. Goal two: to establish a network of science-policy platforms to contribute to the implementation of the IPBES rolling work programmes at national, sub-regional and regional level. Sub-regional refers to countries either in West, Central or East Africa, and the regional level represents the 38 countries. Goal three: to train early career scientists, researchers and facilitators to manage science-policy interfaces (SPIs). Finally, CABES will develop capacities to support the implementation of political decisions for the management and sustainable use of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services/Nature’s Contributions to People (BES/NCPs). Objectives of the CABES programme The overall project objective is to raise awareness of IPBES (www.ipbes.net) amongst multiple stakeholder groups and undertake actions towards a better representation of West, Central, and East Africa in IPBES activities as well as improved uptake of IPBES products into national policies to better conserve and sustainably use BES/NCPs. This is closely related to the main outcome of the project, targeting at science-policy-practice communities represented by researchers, practitioners from the public, private sectors, as well as NGOs, ILK holders and focal points in West, Central, and East Africa that support the national governments to engage in the IPBES rolling work programme at global level, and its implementation at the regional and national level. In order to achieve this objective, CABES is committed to: • Enhance the awareness about IPBES and its multiple outputs to inform national decision-making processes on the conservation and sustainable use of BES/NCPs amongst various stakeholder groups, • Establish a network of science-policy platforms to contribute to the implementation of IPBES work programme at national, sub-regional, and regional levels across West, Central, and East Africa, • Develop capacities of decision makers and other target groups to support the implementation of political decisions on nature-based solutions, ecosystem-based adaptation approaches and sustainable use of BES/NCPs. • Develop capacities of decision makers and other target groups to support the implementation of political decisions on nature-based solutions, ecosystem-based adaptation approaches and sustainable use of BES/NCPs. |

Uganda | https//www.oosrc.org | https://www.linkedin.com/company/74983584/admin/ | Enhancing the knowledge and skills of local and indigenous communities in Uganda to enable and facilitate engagement in the use of IPBES products | Larger capacity-building projects or initiatives, Support to communities of practice engaging in IPBES | Indigenous and local knowledge systems, Policy instruments, policy support tools and methodologies | Enhancing the knowledge and skills of local and indigenous communities in Uganda shall enable and facilitate engagement in the use of IPBES products. Familiarization of IPBES works to reach a wider community requires strategic support to increase the resilience to harness community-based conservation efforts. This initiative will enhance individual and community capacities for supporting the development and use of IPBES deliverables because Uganda is one country that is lagging behind in the dissemination of the IPBES works and we want to believe that to strengthen the role of local and indigenous communities in the implementation of IPBES works especially building and supporting their practice in conservation is essential when we work closely with local and indigenous communities, governments and non-state actors to create and improve the chances of tilting the balance in negotiations in favor of biodiversity. The contribution is in line with the IPBES 2030 work programme which includes building capacity as one of its six objectives and particularly it shall build the capacity and strengthen the knowledge foundations of the Karamojong indigenous Nomadic Pastoralist of North East Uganda and Iteso local community and it’s seen as supporting the policy. The two communities are chosen because they are situated amid areas of high biodiversity and other values of nature in the country. We aim to build the capacities of the target communities to make known the IPBES works and reports on biodiversity and ecosystem services. These products when understood by the target communities shall make good country’s dual goal of improving the management of natural resources and people’s quality of life and aimed to conserve wildlands and their biodiversity while simultaneously balancing the needs of local people, sustaining ecosystem dynamics and resilience, and ensuring continuity for future generations. This contribution undertakes community engagement of IPBES reports using bottom-up empowerment and it is justified that working to engage communities to understand assessment/research reports is considered a practical and pragmatic way of improving the delivery of outcomes and making interventions more cost-effective. |

The logo of the 7th conference with the map of the Mediterranean Sea symbolizes the common history of peoples and our contemporary efforts aimed at the conservation of sea turtles and the marine environment. Since the beginning, in 2001, our Mediterranean conferences have been supported by the UNEP MAP-RAC/SPA, Bern Convention, the Convention for Migratory Species, and now by US Fish and Wildlife Service. Their support will help us bring invited speakers, and provide travel and accommodation grants in order to make this conference available to as many of our colleagues as possible. We will invite prominent colleagues working in the field of sea turtle conservation to discuss collaborative opportunities. This is why the theme of the 7th Conference is “Sea Turtles Conservation after the Pandemic”. The conference venue is the Sofitel Tamuda Bay Beach And Spa (https://www.sofitel-tamudabay.com), located 15 minutes away in Tetouan. The Sofitel Tamuda Bay Beach And Spa chain of hotels and resorts has a history of supporting environmental and conservation projects. They have offered us a good deal for congress facilities and accommodation for participants. There are several international airports nearby (Tangier and Tetouan Airports) and Taxi shuttles service from Tangier (1 hour) and Tetouan (15 minutes) to the Hotel. I invite you all – students, professionals, and all who care about sea turtles and the future of the Mediterranean– to register and come to Tetouan for the 7th Mediterranean Conference on Marine Turtles. My team and I will do our best to make this Conference a memorable scientific, professional, and social event – the reunion of old friends with the new generation of sea turtle researchers and conservationists. Looking forward to seeing you all in Tetouan! On behalf of the Conference Organizing and Program Committees, Mustapha Aksissou President of the 7th Mediterranean Conference on Marine Turtles |

Issues facing pollinators in Trinidad and Tobago largely stem from a lack of data, a lack of public awareness and a lack of pollinator-appropriate management. This project aims to address these challenges by engaging a broad range of stakeholders through public awareness and citizen science initiatives, identifying knowledge gaps, encouraging and supporting scientific research, facilitating collaboration and improving livelihoods, and reviewing policy. It is expected that because of these activities, knowledge and understanding of pollinators and their threats and management options among the general public increases; management of pollinators improves, particularly among food producers; a number of tools are made available to present and future generations. |

There is the general move, especially in Africa to increase the amount of inorganic fertilizer applications to boost crop production. Juxtaposing the shallow soil depth and rate of increase of fertilizer applications, especially the nitrogen-based fertilizers, it is imperative to speak about the consequence of contamination of surface and ground water by runoff and leaching of these inorganic fertilizers. The devastations of nitrogen polluted water bodies are evident all over the world. It is therefore important to discuss the measures to subvert this devastation. | Sat, 01/01/2022 - 00:00 | Sun, 01/01/2023 - 00:00 | 76,788.27 | African States | Bénin (le), Ghana (le), Mali (le) | Objective 2(a): Enhanced learning and engagement, Objective 2(b): Facilitated access to expertise and information, Objective 2(c): Strengthened national and regional capacities | Organization of science-policy dialogues with national focal points | Convening of regular meetings of the IPBES capacity-building forum | Encouragement of the development of science-policy platforms, networks and assessments for biodiversity and ecosystem services at the national and (sub)regional levels | |||||

INDIA | http://nirdpr.org.in/ | CAPACITY BUILDING ON CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABLE USE OF BIODIVERSITY AT THE PANCHAYAT LEVEL | Activity or event (e.g., meeting, workshop, webinar, conference, article, website), Larger capacity-building projects or initiatives | IPBES assessments, Policy instruments, policy support tools and methodologies, Scenarios and models | Uptake and use of approved IPBES assessments | The goal of the capacity building on "sustainable use of biodiversity" is to introduce principles and governance tools to different stakeholders of biodiversity conservation at the grassroots level, particularly for those involved in rural development and Panchayati raj systems for better governance and Use of Biodiversity at Panchayat level. The capacity building programme will be imparted as Training of Trainee (ToT) mode to the panchayat level through identified agencies like state rural development institutes (SIRDs) and non-governmental institutions. The programme is designed under the larger perspective laid down by the "Convention of Biodiversity" (CBD), the "Intergovernmental platform for biodiversity and ecosystem services" (IPBES) and the governance approaches adopted in India's Biodiversity Act 2002. As envisioned at intergovernmental levels, the linkages between the 'nature's contribution to the people' (NCP) and 'good quality of life' (GQL) have been taken as a guiding principle to develop capacity building modules for this programme. The classification of different nature's contributions under material, non-material and regulative functions of biodiversity received immense attention in science policy platforms. The ToT will effectively disseminate the knowledge and skill required for improving the governance of biodiversity and ecosystem services at the grassroots level through Panchayat Raj. It will also help to impart the socio-economic and governance dimensions of biodiversity and ecosystem services to 2.6 lakhs panchayats in India . |
