The International Society of Ethnobiology, in collaboration with the Federal University of Para, the Museu Paraense Emilio Goeldi and the Brazilian Society of Ethnobiology and Ethnoecology, held its 16th annual congress jointly with the 12th Brazilian Symposium on Ethnobiology and Ethnoecology from 7 to 10 August 2018 in Belem, Brazil, with the general theme “The rights of Indigenous and traditional peoples and the sustainable uses of biodiversity three decades after the Declaration of Belem”.

Experts of the IPBES global assessment co-organized and/or participated in three events within the congress:

(a)         A panel session on the contributions of ILK/IPLC to the Aichi targets

(b)         A plenary session on ‘Global change, local perceptions and issues’

(c)         An open meeting discussing the Brazilian assessment of the contributions of IPLC to biodiversity and conservation
