Objective 2 (a), 4 - A Youth workshop to strengthen the engagement of young people in the work of IPBES and to support the uptake of assessments among young people, other individuals and organisations will be organized. Footnote: The workshop will target individuals representing youth organizations (working on the issues of biodiversity and ecosystem services) that have an active voice in their community. An open call, including selection criteria, will be issued.

The idea is not to explain content to the young, but to listen to the young, to harvest their motivations, concerns and ideas to incorporate them in IPBES work. This could be done by applying nature futures. Potentially, a contribution to the nexus and tc assessments can be envisaged, also the discussion of SUB and Values assessments is an option.

There is the general move, especially in Africa to increase the amount of inorganic fertilizer applications to boost crop production. Juxtaposing the shallow soil depth and rate of increase of fertilizer applications, especially the nitrogen-based fertilizers, it is imperative to speak about the consequence of contamination of surface and ground water by runoff and leaching of these inorganic fertilizers. The devastations of nitrogen polluted water bodies are evident all over the world. It is therefore important to discuss the measures to subvert this devastation. The capacity building programme will be imparted as Training of Trainee (ToT) mode to the panchayat level through identified agencies like state rural development institutes (SIRDs) and non-governmental institutions. The programme is designed under the larger perspective laid down by the "Convention of Biodiversity" (CBD), the "Intergovernmental platform for biodiversity and ecosystem services" (IPBES) and the governance approaches adopted in India's Biodiversity Act 2002. As envisioned at intergovernmental levels, the linkages between the 'nature's contribution to the people' (NCP) and 'good quality of life' (GQL) have been taken as a guiding principle to develop capacity building modules for this programme. The classification of different nature's contributions under material, non-material and regulative functions of biodiversity received immense attention in science policy platforms. The ToT will effectively disseminate the knowledge and skill required for improving the governance of biodiversity and ecosystem services at the grassroots level through Panchayat Raj. It will also help to impart the socio-economic and governance dimensions of biodiversity and ecosystem services to 2.6 lakhs panchayats in India .
We may approach the National Biodiversity Authority for their support also. Support to communities of practice engaging in IPBES Indigenous and local knowledge systems, Scenarios and models From a methodological approach that integrates elements of education for comprehensive water management and for adaptation to Climate Change, with a design approach for transitions and adaptive management of socio-ecological systems. An exploratory study will be carried out through interviews with key actors (academics, members of civil society organizations, federal government officials, municipal government officials, teachers, agricultural producers and inhabitants) and surveys of middle school students (high schools and high schools) for:

1) Carry out a general survey of the current situation at the level of water security (access to drinking water in adequate quantity and quality to cover their consumption, sanitation, hygiene and health needs).
2) Carry out a general survey regarding the state of the ecosystems and their capacity to continue providing hydrological ecosystem services, on which both people and biodiversity depend.
3) Know if the organizational, management, infrastructure and knowledge resources available to the population allow it to be resilient or adapt to extreme hydrometeorological phenomena derived from Climate Change, such as drought.
4) Know the visions of the future of adults and young people regarding the ideal of community development.

The results of the research will make it possible to assess current opportunities, gaps and challenges. What will allow the design of a relevant and culturally appropriate knowledge management strategy, and that facilitates the creation of capacities to increase community resilience and adaptation to Climate Change.

Dear friends and colleagues,
It is my great pleasure and honour to invite you to our 7th Mediterranean Conference on Marine Turtles, scheduled for 18 - 21 October 2022, which is being organized by the University of Abdelmalek Essaadi, Faculty of Sciences_Tetouan and ATOMM. The Conference will take place in Morocco, in the city of Tetouan on the coast of the Western Mediterranean, one of the most important feeding and migratory habitats for Mediterranean sea turtles.
The city of Tetouan is one of Morocco's most famous tourist destinations with a diverse historical and cultural heritage. Tetouan is considered "the most Andalusian city in Morocco”. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the area contains beautiful landscapes and historical monuments. The logo of the 7th conference with the map of the Mediterranean Sea symbolizes the common history of peoples and our contemporary efforts aimed at the conservation of sea turtles and the marine environment.
Since the beginning, in 2001, our Mediterranean conferences have been supported by the UNEP MAP-RAC/SPA, Bern Convention, the Convention for Migratory Species, and now by US Fish and Wildlife Service. Their support will help us bring invited speakers, and provide travel and accommodation grants in order to make this conference available to as many of our colleagues as possible.
We will invite prominent colleagues working in the field of sea turtle conservation to discuss collaborative opportunities. This is why the theme of the 7th Conference is “Sea Turtles Conservation after the Pandemic”.
The conference venue is the Sofitel Tamuda Bay Beach And Spa (https://www.sofitel-tamudabay.com), located 15 minutes away in Tetouan. The Sofitel Tamuda Bay Beach And Spa chain of hotels and resorts has a history of supporting environmental and conservation projects. They have offered us a good deal for congress facilities and accommodation for participants. There are several international airports nearby (Tangier and Tetouan Airports) and Taxi shuttles service from Tangier (1 hour) and Tetouan (15 minutes) to the Hotel.
I invite you all – students, professionals, and all who care about sea turtles and the future of the Mediterranean– to register and come to Tetouan for the 7th Mediterranean Conference on Marine Turtles. My team and I will do our best to make this Conference a memorable scientific, professional, and social event – the reunion of old friends with the new generation of sea turtle researchers and conservationists.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Tetouan!

This series of workshops was spread through the global time zones and hosted by regional ESP representatives, but open to anybody interested in reviewing the assessment.

We were explicitly looking for expertise from members of governments, local communities and civil society who have practical, technical and/or academic knowledge.

Each of the 5 workshops consisted of a short presentation of the values assessment and the summary for policy makers; an explanation of the review process; and an interactive part where participants were able to put forward questions and comments on the different chapters. We collected the comments and questions arising during the workshops, and also pesented to participans the review mechanism so they can submit comments afterwards.
